Welcome to #BakingCrumbs September 2018 linky with slightly changed format which we really hope you’ll all approve of! Starting this month selected bakes will be included in our monthly highlights style round-up which this month happens to be Back To School Bakes!
Before I start this month’s round-up I would like to thank lovely Angela at Only Crumbs Remain for inviting me to co-host #BakingCrumbs with her on permanent basis. I really enjoyed guest hosting this delicious linky back in May and really didn’t have to think long before giving her my answer! We both hope that you don’t mind the change in format and that you will continue to support the linky and all those who link up and share our love of baking!
Now onto this month’s theme – Back To School Bakes! As ever, it was really difficult to pick only a handful of bakes despite there being quite a few different themes going on. However, as it is back to school for so many of us/our kids I went for rather appropriate mixture of bakes which can serve as lovely additions to lunch boxes or after school snacks or treats. I have also included couple of “back in the day”, retro desserts that caught my eye. So here we go…
Easy Fudgy Vegan Brownies from Peachick’s Bakery
How wonderfully fudgy are these gorgeous brownies? Perfect for vegans and gluten free too. They are quick and easy to make and bake and therefore perfect at the start of new school year when our life becomes a bit more hectic yet again.
Lemon & Blueberry Cookies from The Baking Explorer
Lemon and blueberry combo is out of this world. I am definitely going to add these delicate cookies to my baking repertoire. I would be delighted to find one in my lunch box. 🙂
Easy Cheese & Onion Quiche from Apply To Face Blog
I am partial to a good quiche and this one in particular has my name written all over it! Jenny has used cream cheese instead of milk or cream in her egg mixture which made this quiche super creamy and oh so delicious. Perfect lunch box or after school snack too (my kids love quiche).
Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins from Curly’s Cooking
Cat’s muffins are so fluffy and light and would make a perfect little snack or addition to the lunch box. They are gluten free too!
Soft Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies from Searching For Spice
I simply couldn’t resist some more cookies and these are my all time favourite especially when they are soft and chewy. They wouldn’t last five minutes in our house but best thing about them is that they are a doddle to make.
Nutella Swirled Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins from Something Sweet Something Savoury
These muffins look simply divine and wouldn’t they make a perfect after school treat from time to time? Lots of naughtiness but occasional indulgence is completely acceptable especially as there is Nutella in sight.
Gluten Free Funfetti Cake from Gluten Free Alchemist
When I saw Kate’s cake I though that it would be a perfect cake to commiserate the end of Summer and to “celebrate” the start of new school year. Beautiful and fun just looking at it makes me smile. You could get your kids involved in applying the sprinkles… Tell them that the only way to do it is one sprinkle at a time lol, just for a bit of fun! 😉
As a little bonus I would like to mention two lovely and very retro/school dinners style desserts that caught my eye.
Rebecca’s of Glutarama Gluten Free Blackberry Crumble Fool is so super quick and easy to make yet looking really gorgeous.
Caroline’s of Caroline Makes Peach Melba Cheesecake requires only easy store cupboard ingredients for a bit of retro creamy deliciousness and there no baking required either!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this month’s Back To School Bakes round-up! I hope these recipes have inspired you and that you’ve found at least one if not more that you will want to make for you and your family!
What I recreated in Jo’s Kitchen Larder last month?
Well, when I saw Debbie’s from Proper Foodie recipe for Banana Birthday Cake with gorgeous vanilla mascarpone cream filling it was love at first sight. We make banana bread all the time but this banana cake is out of this world delicious and that mascarpone cream… It’s so good I will be using it for other cakes as well!
Similarly to Debbie we didn’t really have a birthday to celebrate but who needs an excuse when all you want is CAKE! Give this one a go, you’ll love it!
Make sure you stay up to date with all the latest recipes from Jo’s Kitchen Larder
